Bergen Cardigan – Anne Kerdilès

A quick article today to present my Bergen cardigan. I really likes this pattern when it was released and I purely and simply copied it. Very comfy, easy and quick to sew but I am not 100% convinced with it unfortunately.

what is it?

The Bergen cardigan is the last pattern released from Anne Kerdilès. I really like this brand so I didn’t hesitate to buy the pattern straight away. A cute and comfy cardigan, how could I resist?
The pattern explanations are super clear, no problem at all to sew it.

However, I have had some issues with it. When I tried it one the first time, I found the sleeves way too bulky for me, especially around the shoulders with the pleats. It was odd as I sew a size 36 for the bodice (increased up to 38 at the hips). As the pattern is meant for a knit fabric, I was expecting it to be very fitted. It is completely the opposite as Bergen is quite lose. I decreased the sleeves’ width by 3cm to make them as fitted as I wanted them to be.
I am not by all mean criticizing the pattern, I just didn’t like its style on me but it is a very personal opinion.

how is it made?

I have used the Twinkle night sweat fabric by Atelier Brunette.  I already sewn it for my Jimmy sweatshirt and I really like it. Warm but not too much, super soft, a realyhit for me!
It is quite expensive but I think that it is definitely worth it.

which size it is?

I have made a size 36 increased up to 38 at the hips.

is it modified?

As mentioned, I have reduced the sleeves’ width by 3 cm. I much prefer them like that.

do you like it?

To be honest, I am not sure. I have sewn it but not worn until the photoshoot. I find the neckline a bit too wide. You have to be careful to put it properly on your shoulders not to reveal the tee-shirt underneath. However, I have worn it all day after taking the pictures and I really like it.
From a style perspective, I like the pleats around the shoulders and the waistband. I like the shape of it, thinner or wider. I adore the double buttons on the button band. I don’t like the shape of the neckline and the sleeves were initially way too wide for my taste.

to be done again?

No, I don’t think so.
