Our story

The word
d e Lise

Without this incredibly loyal creative community that has supported me since the launch of my blog and followed me through the publication of my books, Lise Tailor wouldn't exist. It all began with a shared love of sewing, knitting, and creating in general. I value this sharing of creative content and this passion above all else. That's why I only design fabrics, yarns, and patterns that I love to sew, knit, and wear myself. In fact, I've designed my business so that sewing and knitting remain hobbies, sources of enjoyment. In my free time, I still get out my sewing machine and knitting needles.

The connection with our customers is paramount; we form a loyal, strong, and supportive creative community. My goal is to ensure that none of them are disappointed. This strong relationship is the key to everything. I love nothing more than seeing seamstresses take up knitting, and vice versa, thanks to Lise Tailor products!

Working from your passion and building a career tailored to your needs is a privilege, but also requires hard work, determination, and constant energy. Now, my dearest wish is to see my products in as many shops as possible in France and around the world, so I can continue to share my passion and work with you.

“Knitting and sewing are true sources of pleasure and relaxation. While my hands are busy, my mind wanders.”

Lise Tailor's philosophy

Revitalizing sewing and knitting, creative activities still considered a bit outdated or too technical: that's Lise Tailor's goal in creating her brand of fabrics, patterns, and yarns. "My aim is to allow seamstresses and knitters to create their own outfits, and for the result to rival the cutting-edge Parisian fashion brands admired online or in women's magazines." For these contemporary creations, Lise pays particular attention to prints and colors. The patterns are original, modern, and possess a strong identity while remaining delicate and poetic, enhanced by the choice of fabrics and colors. The same is true for the yarns, whose shades perfectly complement the brand's fabrics. "I pay particular attention to the vibrancy of the colors," she explains.

By celebrating handmade craftsmanship and creativity, the brand fully embraces the slow fashion trend, advocating for responsible manufacturing at every stage of the production chain. Less is more—that's the motto. "When you sew or knit your own clothes, it's with the intention of preserving them," says Lise.

“I spend months hunting for the best fabric, the best wool. The challenge lies in finding the right balance between quality and ethics. I need to be certain that the factory I work with produces the best product while maintaining exemplary social and environmental practices. I always prioritize local sourcing, and the majority of my collections are made in France, but only if this comes with impeccable quality and ethical standards.”

Nos Valeurs

Pour maintenir jour après jour sa ligne de conduite,
Lise a affiché dans son bureau les valeurs clés qui font toute l’identité de la marque :

Innovate

A seasonal collection, based on the ready-to-wear model with the arrival of new original designs every three to four weeks.

"I like things that are figurative or that evoke nature, especially flowers,"
Lise explains.

Join the Slow Fashion movement

Printed fabrics in small series, mainly in France for ethical and ecological reasons.

When a collection is sold out, there is no restocking; this allows for the integration of new items "and for fun", while bringing rarity and uniqueness to the products.

Objective: no disappointed customers.

His story

Lise, the founder

From her childhood, Lise remembers the click of her grandmother's knitting needles; her grandmother was a seamstress by trade. It was her grandmother who taught her the basics, and by her teenage years, Lise already perceived the full potential of knitting.
“I loved fashion, and knitting allowed me to make clothes I couldn’t afford… even if, for a long time, the results didn’t live up to my expectations.” No matter, she persevered, and with the arrival of her first son, sewing joined the ranks of her creative passions. So much so that she started a blog to share her creations with a community that has grown over the years. “My sister’s boyfriend came up with the blog’s name. My partner is English, so I liked the play on words between the great Liz Taylor and ‘tailor.’”

While working as a marketing executive at a large company, this blog was the first step towards her career change. It was thanks to her blog that Eyrolles publishers noticed her and commissioned her to write a technical book on knitting. A real springboard, as the book was a success, reprinted several times and followed by other titles. The final push she needed to take the plunge and start her own business.

“I had the idea of sewing kits and differentiating myself by creating my own designs. It took me two years to get started because I had to learn my craft, find suppliers, and also understand how a design will react to the fabric. I'm happy I took the plunge and I don't regret my old life at all. I make a living from my passion while still having time for my two children.” At the end of 2018, the first collection, “The First Fall!”, was launched, marking the beginning of the Lise Tailor entrepreneurial adventure.

Our creations

For 100% handmade outfits

For fabrics sold by the meter, Lise primarily works with ECOVERO™ certified viscose , a fiber sourced from sustainably managed forests and produced using environmentally friendly processes. This opaque fabric is easy to sew because it's fluid yet stable; perfect for sewing pretty dresses, blouses, skirts, or shirts. For those who prefer 100% cotton, Lise works with cotton sateen , which is easy to sew, durable, and has a very soft feel. Since March 2025, Lise has also offered a printed viscose jersey certified by FSC and STeP by OEKO-TEX®. All three fabrics are printed just a few kilometers from Lyon.

As for the cotton jersey , long requested by customers, Lise took the time to find the perfect quality! This cotton jersey is printed in Europe on an organic base using organic inks in a GOTS- certified factory (the global benchmark for evaluating organic fibers). It is stable, opaque, with excellent elasticity, and suitable for sewing clothes for both children and adults. Since spring 2020, it has been accompanied by a lightweight organic cotton sweatshirt fabric , also GOTS-certified, ideal for making sweaters and jackets. Both the cotton jersey and the lightweight sweatshirt fabric are printed in Europe.

In October 2021, Lise Tailor launched a new fabric: a Canva cotton canvas woven in France and then printed in Spain . It is ideal for making home accessories as well as clothing.

Drawing on her extensive experience as a seamstress and professional expertise, Lise Tailor has embarked on creating her own patterns to enhance these adorable fabrics: skirts, jumpsuits, tops, dresses, blouses, pyjamas… The collection expands with each season.

Lise Tailor is now also a yarn brand, a return to Lise's first passion. Our yarns are spun and dyed as close as possible to the herds in South Africa or Italy (for the Aube base). The brand also now offers its own knitting patterns to showcase its yarns and create 100% handmade garments.
